Seasonal Shifts and Target Species Update
Florida Keys - Monroe, FL
The waters off Islamorada are currently offering excellent opportunities for anglers as we transition into the warmer summer months. Our recent trips have shown consistent activity across both the reef and the offshore grounds, making this an ideal window to plan a trip.
Offshore Report The offshore bite has been productive, with mahi-mahi becoming a primary target. We are finding schools of mahi working through the weed lines in 200 to 400 feet of water. Along with the mahi, we continue to see blackfin tuna and an occasional wahoo. Keep your gear ready for high-speed strikes while trolling, as these pelagics are moving quickly through the current.
Reef and Wreck Report The reef fishing remains a staple of our Islamorada sportfishing trips. Yellowtail and mangrove snapper are biting well on lighter tackle, providing steady action throughout the day. For those looking for a heavier fight, our wreck fishing locations are holding significant numbers of grouper and large amberjack. Bottom fishing with live bait has been the most effective technique for these structure-oriented species.
Captain’s Outlook As we move closer to June, we anticipate even warmer water temperatures, which will likely bring larger schools of dolphin closer to the reef edge. Now is the time to finalize your plans and secure your date on the boat. Whether you are looking to fill the cooler with fresh snapper or target a trophy pelagic, the current conditions in the Florida Keys are set for a successful day.
